SouthShore Couples &
Family Counseling Center offers the following workshops on and
off-site. Workshops are presented in the evenings for one and a
half hours.
BASIC STRATEGIES FOR
REMARRIED FAMILIES
This workshop will
explore the dynamics in “Stepfamilies.” There will never be a
perfect blending of two families, such as the “Brady Bunch.” A
stepfamily functions much differently than a traditional one.
This workshop offers strategies to help families achieve a
peaceful transition by developing skills particular to their
family success!
COPING WITH LOSS IN
THE FAMILY
The death of a loved
one may be one of the most severe traumas we encounter. A wide
array of emotions can be experienced, such as: sadness, anger,
anxiety, guilt and despair. This workshop is designed to educate
people experiencing grief, and those around them, regarding the
effects of loss and how to cope. Recognizing the basic phases in
the bereavement process can help those experiencing loss
understand their emotions during this time. This workshop will
focus on the principle process of grieving, techniques and skills
used to promote self-help with loss, and learning to recognize
indications for when professional help may need to be sought.
Acceptance of the loss means gaining a perspective – a change of
self- a new sense of self and what you can do with your life!
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
FOR COUPLES
People often agree
that communication is an important element in any relationship.
What is not commonly understood is how to improve communication in
a relationship, particularly when partners have different “styles”
of relating. This workshop explores strengths and obstacles in
communication styles, gender differences, and encourages couples
to build on what they do well together.
